SBFD Works A Cold Barn Fire

By Captain/EMT Spencer Wiesner
February 20, 2021

With the remnants of the Ark-La-Tex Snowpocalypse of 2021, the South Bossier Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Barn Fire. Our staffed stations responded with Engine 1, Tanker 1, Engine 4, and Tanker 4. Many of our volunteers responded directly to the scene as well as responded to outlying stations getting Engine 2, Tanker 5, Engine 5, and Engine 6 on the road. This added almost an additional well needed 10,000 gallons of water on the road. Assistant Chief Pilgrim (Car 2) arrived on scene confirming a fully involved barn fire and advised all incoming units operate on a "defensive strategy" due to the structure being fully engulfed. After sizing up the scene, Bienville Tanker 7 which holds 4,000 gallons of water, was requested for mutual aid. This was very helpful due to the rural location of this incident. Members were on scene for approximately 5 hours fighting the fire in frigid temperatures and performed extensive overhaul operations.

Units: Car 1, Car 2, Engine 1, Tanker 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Tanker 4, Tanker 5, Engine 5, Engine 6, Bienville Tanker 7

Mutual Aid: Bienville 4&5 Fire Department, BPSO, Louisiana Fire Marshal, Bossier Parish EMS Medic 4
